1982-2026
Candice Marie Bergeson, age 43, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away on February 27, 2026 in Winfield, Kansas.
Candice was born on November 20, 1982 to Eldon and Donna Bergeson in Evanston, Wyoming. The youngest of five daughters, Candice enjoyed a lot of attention from her big sisters, who made sure she learned her letters, numbers, and most of the latest pop songs at a very young age.
At age three, Candice’s family moved to Dodge City, Kansas, where she later attended elementary school and played sports. She honed her “little sister” skills by spying on her big sisters and secretly recording their conversations. Her sassy, exuberant, imaginative personality was infectious, and enjoyed by all who knew her.
In middle school, she moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where she played softball, made new friends, and developed her love for Dr. Martens shoes and Tommy Hilfiger jeans, earning the nickname “Fig” from her sisters. During her sophomore year, Candice’s family moved to Winfield, where she graduated from high school.
Candice attended community college and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She settled in the Winfield community, making it her home. Candice raised two sons, Kyan and Elijah. A dedicated single mother, her greatest passion was her love for them. Helping them to get into sports at a young age, the boys grew into skilled athletes and Candice attended hundreds of games, cheering them on, full of pride for the exceptional young men they had become, on and off the field.
Professionally, she was also dedicated to caring for others. She worked at many local care centers, looking after the needs of developmentally disabled adults and the elderly. Her humble and kind nature earned the affections of those for whom she cared.
In every way, Candice always put others before herself, and she will be dearly missed.
Candice is survived by her sons, Kyan Towles and Elijah Bergeson; her mother, Donna Bergeson-McNeal and husband Mike McNeal; her siblings, Kristin Gasser, Bianca Alvarez and Donelle Bergeson. She was preceded in death by her father, Eldon Bergeson; sister, Sheryl Bergeson; grandparents Jack and Vita Sutton and Elenor and Louis Bergeson..
A celebration of Candice’s life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 9, 2026, at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM. The family will greet visitors that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Candice Bergeson Memorial Fund to support Kyan and Elijah. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
