Clayton Glen Rising, 53, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at his home.
Born January 12, 1972, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Kenneth Roger Rising and Shirley L. (Brooks) Shelton. He was raised and received his education in eastern Cowley County, graduating from Central High School in Burden in 1990. Following school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1990 to 1995. While in the service, he served in the Airborne Unit, and also worked as a mechanic on heavy equipment. After his honorable discharge, he returned to southeast Kansas.
Clayton began his career as a heavy equipment mechanic for Ritchie Construction, which later became Lafarge Construction Equipment. He later worked at Caster Excavating before starting his own company, C Mobile Repair in 2011. In 2014, he began working at Dondlinger Construction.
He was united in marriage to Lindsay Van Damme in 2007 in Mulvane, Kansas. To this union, a son was born. The couple later divorced. Clayton enjoyed riding fourwheelers and motorcycles, fishing, and almost anything outdoors. He particularly enjoyed time with his children.
His family includes his sons, Zerek Rising and Zack Rising; his step daughter Shaylah Kempke; his step father Larry Shelton and wife, Glenda; his siblings, Owen Rising and Kim Price and husband, Marty; his step brothers, Lance Shelton and Jim Shelton; step sister Deborah Hayes; and two grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by an infant brother.
A celebration of Clayton’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
A memorial has been established in Clayton’s name for Wounded Warriors. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
