1927-2026
Clyde R. Vasey Jr., age 98, passed away on May 9, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1927, the sixth child of Clyde and Inez Vasey. During his early childhood, his family moved frequently, living in a different town nearly every other year. He often said that experience prepared him to embrace change and adventure throughout his life.
Clyde was blessed with the support and encouragement of many people, especially his intelligent and loving wife, Lois. Together they shared a wonderful life for 71 years.
Clyde proudly served in the United States Navy, attached to the office of the Commander, Western Sea Frontier. He met and married Lois Dryen while attending Southwestern College in Winfield Kansas. Throughout his career, he worked in a variety of roles that took him and his family to Kansas, Indiana, Illinois and Arkansas before returning to Winfield, Kansas, where he and Lois spent the remainder of their time together. In addition, Clyde and Lois spent three years volunteering at the Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka Alaska.
He was a graduate of Southwestern College and Northern Illinois University. The family fondly notes that his “claim to fame” was serving as Business Manager for the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; his youngest son, Charles and his siblings. He is survived by his oldest son Clyde III and daughter, Cynthia as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are pending. Memorials may be directed to the Lois Vasey Endowment Fund at Southwestern College and may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
