David A. Carter, Sr.
1961-2025

David Allen Carter, Sr., 63, died Monday, July 14, 2025 at his home in Arkansas City, Kansas.

He was born on November 21, 1961 in Arkansas City. David attended Arkansas City High School and Cowley College.

He worked for Carter Body & Wrecker Service then was the manager of Carter Wrecker Service and Salvage Yard before enlisting in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the military David moved to Oklahoma where he was a truck driver and worked on oil rigs. Later he returned to Arkansas City and went to work in the medical field, working at Riverview Manor in Oxford and Presbyterian Manor and Medicalodge both in Ark City.

David enjoyed working on cars, being in the Demolition Derby’s with his car #35, camping, swimming, and coaching the Yellow Jackets Little League Baseball team. He was a member of Spencer Ralston V.F.W. Post #1254.

He married Kay Whatley and they had a daughter Brandi. He later married Sherry Pourner and they had a son David, Jr.

Survivors include his daughter Brandi Carter Sharp and her husband Aaron Sharp; son David Carter, Jr. and wife Tanya Carter all of Arkansas City; his mother Jo Hayes and her husband Don of Oxford; brother Johnny Dean Carter of Winfield; sister Angie Dixon and husband Tim of Oxford; grandchildren Dylan Hills, Rileigh Carter, and five other grandkids; along with several nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his father Johnny Alton Carter; grandson Jordan Hobson;
uncles David W. Carter, Russell Sparks; aunts Sue Hoeke and Dona Tousley; grandparents John Allen Carter and Leona Carter, Blanche Lorah Carter, Russell and Pauline Sparks.

Graveside and inurnment services will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas at 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 1.

A Celebration of Life will announced later.

The family has entrusted Affordable Cremations Plus in Wichita with his care.
