David Lee Jack, 82, of Winfield, KS passed away August 8, 2025 at Cumbernauld Village surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield, Military honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM Thursday, August 14th, with the family present from 6-8. Memorials may be made out to 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry 4th Division “Ivy Dragoons” and left in the care of the funeral home.
David was born on October 23, 1942, in Winfield, KS, to William Lee and Mabel Elizabeth (Wooddell) Jack. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1960 and then graduated from Wichita State University, double majoring in history and political science. He then served in the US Army and was sent to Vietnam, just before the Battle of Dak To. He served in the Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve for over 25 years and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. David loved serving his country and training and mentoring those he served with. David enjoyed reading and learning throughout his life and passing that information on to his kids, grandkids, and those he worked with. He worked at the Winfield Police Department for over 25 years, retiring as a Captain. He also owned D & S Liquor in Arkansas City, KS for many years and enjoyed having his personal vineyard and making wine. David enjoyed music and it felt like he knew every song, especially southern rock, outlaw country, the blues, or classical. He was a member of the America legion, VFW, and Fraternal Order of Police. On February 7, 1987, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sherlyn Watson, in Winfield. Family was everything, David loved coaching and supporting his kids and grandkids in all sports. He was always involved and interested in what they were doing or learning about. He was always ready to give his support to his family, no matter what.
David is survived by his wife Sherlyn, children Candice Channing (Richard), Crystal Tholstrup (Jeff), Amber Bryant (Kyle), Heather O`Neil, Andrew Jack, and Christopher Jack, grandchildren Kyle, Tyler (Mary), Devan (Felicia), Trent (Allison), Bradley, Trevor (Alexis), Kayla (Issac), Jacob, Lia, Kadence, Gabe, Jace, Itzia, and Carson. 11 great-grandchildren, and two nephews, David and Aaron Jack.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Blake McDonald and brother Marvin Jack.
