Deanna Marlene Havens
1957 - 2024

Deanna Marlene Havens, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away from Leukemia on December 13, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas city.

Deanna was born February 12, 1957, in Winfield, to John W. and Louise M. (Friend) Havens. She was raised in Winfield, attending Stevenson and Irving Elementary schools, and graduating Winfield High School in May 1975. Her first employments were at the Fox Theater, Winfield Floral, Boogaarts SuperMarket, and Binney & Smith.

She married James “Jim” Tickel on September 21, 1978, in Winfield. The couple had one daughter, Jaema Lee Tickel on September 6, 1979. They later divorced. Deanna moved to Arkansas city and worked at Conoco in Ponca City while attending Cowley County Community College. She received an Associate degree in Applied Science in May 1984. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Following graduation, she moved to Bakersfield, California and worked for Kern County using her drafting degree.

In 1995, she and Jaema returned to Kansas to make their home. Deanna became a very active volunteer for the group Fluoride Free Kansas and fought against fluoridation of public water supplies in many cities and states.

She worked and attended the Walnut Valley Festival for many years, camping in the Pecan Grove at “Hotel California” and meeting many people from all over this land, who remained friends throughout the years. One thing on her mind during her illness was to be able to attend the festival one last time to see and visit with her friends, which she got to do.

Deanna was a woman of many talents and a perfectionist. She had an artistic eye and enjoyed drawing. As a young woman, she learned to make beautiful bows and arrange floral arrangements, which she continued doing for family and friends for weddings and special occasions. She loved her palm trees and pink flamingos.

She is survived by her daughter Jaema Lee Tickel; her grandson Clinton Errol Hall, Jr; her mother Louise (Friend) Havens; two sisters, Mary F. Eastman and Susan G. Havens; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father John Havens, her paternal grandparents, Charlie and Mary (Huffmaster) Havens, and her maternal grandparents, Vern and Florence (Armstrong) Friend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 20, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service. Per Deanna’s request, please wear tye dye or your bluegrass best. Private interment will take place at Tisdale Cemetery at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday evening, December 19, 2024, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
