Delbert “Dean” Westenfeld, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2025, at William Newton Hospital.
Born June 10, 1929, in Winfield, he was the son of Lester and Hazel (Linscott) Westenfeld. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. After school, Delbert worked as a cowboy for many area ranches. He also worked farming and driving trucks.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lee Cole on March 9, 1957, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, where Dean began working for the Highway Department in the early 1970’s. He remained with the Highway Department for over 25 years until retiring. Dorothy preceded him in death on June 30, 2005. Dean enjoyed rodeo, mowing the yard, tinkering with cars, animals, and spending time with his grandchildren.
His family includes his daughters, Kimberly Gard of Winfield; Deana Westenfeld of Lyons; his grandchildren, Kim Ates, Dallas (Mike) Shannon, Deana Gard, Matthew (Hannah) Westenfeld, Amanda Westenfeld, Sarrah (Garrett) Metzinger; and 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dean was preceded in death by two sons, Vernon and Todd Westenfeld and a brother Milton “Mike” Westenfeld.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 25, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Private interment will take place at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Dean’s name for Angels Care Homehealth. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
