Dolores Margaret French
1933 - 2024

Dolores Margaret (McQuain) French, 91, passed away November 7, 2024.

Dolores was born at the Winfield Hospital, April 8, 1933, to Elihu and Geneva (Baughman) McQuain. Both came from Oklahoma and Eli obtained work in the oil fields of Oxford area in the late 1920s. Dolores started her schooling at Sand Creek Elementary School. After the flood of 1944, that ruined their home east of the river, they moved to Oxford where she finished her schooling. After graduating she moved to Wichita where she worked for Aetna Insurance Company downtown, then the Social Security Administration, then Beech Aircraft.

She met James French and they married in 1955 in Wichita. They eventually moved to Oxford in 1963 where they have resided since. In 1972 together they started Galaxie Business Equipment, Inc. in Oxford. In 1981 the business moved to Winfield where it’s currently located.

Dolores was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother as well as the bookkeeper for the business for many years. She was well known for her superb cooking and hospitality. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses April 28, 1951, and was a zealous evangelizer from that time on. She studied the Bible with numerous people in the Wichita, Augusta and Winfield areas over the years, many of them becoming lifetime friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and sister Dixie Bright.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James, her son Nathan and wife Trudy French, daughter Shannon and husband Milton Konstantinidis, all of Oxford. She was blessed to have six grandchildren, Eli (Lindsay), Reuben, Samuel (Caitlin), and Uriah (Jhenny) French, Anastasia and Cypris Konstantinidis and three great-grandchildren, Jack and Ben and Bronwyn French.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1112 E. 19th St., Winfield, Kansas at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Services are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
