1938 - 2025
Donald Wayne “Don” Sherrard, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away on November 4, 2025.
He was born September 13, 1938, in Winfield, Kansas, to Harold Sylvanus and Lois (Winfrey) Sherrard. Don graduated from Winfield High School in 1956 and earned an Associate Degree in Drafting and Design Technology from Arkansas City Junior College (now Cowley County Community College) in 1958.
He began his career as a draftsman for Beechcraft and later worked for Boeing from 1959 to 1964. Don then spent 25 years with Struthers Thermo Flood before purchasing Winfield Electric in 1984, which he owned and operated with his wife until his retirement in 2007.
A proud veteran, Don served in the Kansas National Guard from 1956 to 1964. He was active in his community as chairman of the Rural Water District, a member of the Winfield Lions Club, a 4-H leader, and participant in the Winfield Leadership Program and Kansas Day Committee.
Don was a devoted member of Millington Street Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and led the bus ministry. He joyfully shared his faith and the love of Jesus with others.
He married Mildred (Parker) on March 26, 1960, and together they shared 65 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; four children, Duane (Teresa) Sherrard, Kathy (Rusty) Brugioni, Gail (Doug) Klaassen, and Jeffery (Lisa) Sherrard; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He loved creating keepsakes for family and friends. He and Mildred traveled extensively across the U.S., visiting every state except Hawaii. Even in retirement, he stayed active, working part-time for CornerBank (now RCB Bank) and delivering meals for Friendship Meals well into his 80s.
Don will be remembered for his faith, kindness, generosity, and dedication to family and community. His legacy of love and service will live on in all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 10, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
