1943 - 2026
Donna Joe Pena, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2026, at Botkin Care and Rehab in Wellington.
Born June 18, 1943, in San Diego, California, she was the daughter of Lester T. and Hazel (Williams) Pruitt. She was raised and received her education in San Diego graduating from Marvista High School.
She was married to Joseph R. Pena, Jr. on August 10, 1963. The couple lived on the east side of San Diego and moved frequently due to her husband’s job. They later settled in Manteca, California, where they spent several years raising their four daughters. Later they moved to Montana, where Donna worked for many years as an apartment manager, retiring from IMI in 2010. While in Montana she also worked as a substitute teacher for a deaf child – work she found meaningful and rewarding. In 2014, Donna and Joseph moved to Winfield Kansas to be closer to family. Joseph preceded her in death in 2016.
Donna was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness. She was baptized in 1974 and was a regular pioneer from 1983 to 1990. She happily enjoyed serving in various congregations with her husband as well as interpreting for deaf ones in her congregation for over 15 years. She enjoyed many creative pursuits including broken-canvas art, making terrariums, jewelry making, and crocheting blankets for family and she especially enjoyed making baby blankets for little ones.
Her family includes her daughters, Janet L. Myers, Donna M. Godwin, Deborah M. Oback and husband Alan Oback, and Jackie L. Cummings; her brother Tommy Pruitt; her sister Denise Rude; her grandchildren, Jason and wife Chanterra Myers and Jessica and husband Chris Rhodes; and her great grandchildren, Wesley and Deklin Rhodes and Emma Myers.
