Doris Ann Wilhelm, 93, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025, at her home.
Born April 10, 1931, in Osage, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Charles and Alta (Cox) Brown. She was raised and received her education in Osage County. While she was young, she worked at the Duncan Hotel in Pawhuska and was a domestic helper for Alice Jordan in Shidler.
She was united in marriage to James Otto Wilhelm on September 12, 1951, in Webb City, Oklahoma. The couple traveled with James’ work, living throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Doris spent most of her life as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, occasionally working various jobs as a painter and cook. The family moved to Winfield in 1980. While in Winfield, Doris worked as a cook for the Senior Citizens Center until retiring in 1998. James preceded her in death on April 10, 2013.
Doris was a member of Blessing Heights Church in Arkansas City. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for family, canning, watching the birds and squirrels, garage selling, and playing Rook. She also enjoyed picking pecans and blackberries. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her family includes her sons, James E. Wilhelm of Shidler, OK; Tommy L. Wilhelm and wife, Trina of Shidler, OK; Todd O. Wilhelm and wife, Darla of Ponca City, OK; her daughters, Rhenea Smith and husband, Tim of Winfield; Andrea McNown and husband, Scott of Winfield; her grandchildren, Jim (Michelle) Wilhelm; Sheila (Danny) Wilhelm; Tommy Joe (Staci) Wilhelm; Charity (Cody) Hawkins; Brandon (Pam) Sparks; Heather Sparks; Amber Gates; Stephanie (Jon) Krol; Stacy (Stephen) Lamar; Sara Wilhelm-Ray; Alisha (Seth) Montgomery; Scotty (Rachel) McNown; her 25 great grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by granddaughters, Peggy Wilhelm and Christie LeAnn Sparks, great grandson Noah Hunter Wilhelm, grandson-in-law Casey Gates, great-great grandson Walker Palmer, and a daughter-in-law Shelly Wilhelm.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 10, 2025, at Webb City Church of God in Webb City, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Foraker Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
