Esther Marie Delgado
1940 - 2025

Esther Marie Delgado, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, August 15, 2025, at William Newton Hospital surrounded by family.

Born in Winfield on December 29, 1940, she was the daughter of Raul and Natividad (Mendoza) Sanchez. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1959.

Esther was married to Fernando Delgado for many years. She lived in Winfield most of her life, except for a four year period, when she lived in Texas. She worked as a Med Aide and a licensed Mental Health Technician at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. After she retired, she continued working at WalMart.

Esther was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), which she fondly referred to as “The V” . She enjoyed dancing, playing Canasta and Phase 10, watching General Hospital, sitting on her front porch and going to the Cowley County Fair to enjoy a funnel cake and people watch, She had a strong passion for cooking, doting on her grandchildren and was a fierce protector of her loved ones.

Her family includes her children, Ricardo Sanchez and wife Sharon of Clarksville, TN; Victoria Lynch and husband Phillip of Winfield, KS; Eusebia “Cheva” David and husband Kerry of Arkansas City, KS; her sister Guadalupe “Lupe” Wells of Winfield, KS; her brother Angel Barron and wife Bel of Winfield, KS; her brother Robert “Bob” Barron and wife Rita of Wichita, KS; her grandchildren Rebekka, Richard “Kyle”, Isabel, Samuel “Sam”, Zachary “Eli”, Kody, Peyton; and her great grandchildren Kannyn, Krayden, Kelson and another one on the way.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents Natividad Garcia and Raul Sanchez, sisters Virginia “Theresa” Anthony and Juanita Barron and brother Frank Barron Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on 21 August, 2025 at Holy Name Catholic Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Internment will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am on 21 August, 2025.

Memorials have been established in Esther’s name for the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post #3544 and Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
