Etta “Louise” Cole, 99, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, January 21, 2025, at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born November 15, 1925, in Hallowell, Kansas, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Bessie Pearle (Cobb) Black. She was raised and received her education in Douglass, Kansas, graduating from Douglass High School.
Louise was united in marriage to Wesley Robert “John” Cole on January 12, 1946, at the Cowley County Courthouse in Winfield. The couple made their home in Udall. In 1969, Louise and John moved to Great Bend and returned to the area in 1984, making their home in Winfield. Louise worked for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for many years as a nurse. John preceded her in death on October 1, 2009.
She was a member of the Udall Nazarene Church. She enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo, playing the penny slots at the casino, and going to garage sales. Louise loved people and was a social butterfly. You could not be in her presence without her giving you something, candy, jewelry, etc.
Her family includes her brother Bobby Black of Valley Center; her grandchildren, Steve W. Kennedy, Michael P. Kennedy, Rodney A. Kennedy, Deborah Delaney, and John Robert Cole; her great grandchildren, Brittany Kennedy, Chad Kennedy, Melissa Kennedy, Adam Schnitzer, Lauren Schnitzer, and Makayla Cole; her great-great grandchildren, Aedyn Murphy and Mathew Davenport; and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by a son John Lee Cole, a daughter Linda Arlene Harter, and siblings, Lloyd, Bill, and Carl Black.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Udall Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Louise’s name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
