Glen Emery Bennett, 76, of Winfield, KS, passed away July 11, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 AM, Monday, July 20th, 2026 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 3544 and left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Glen was born on June 23, 1950, in Winfield, KS, to parents Emery and Doris (Steward) Bennett. He grew up on the family farm in Cedar Vale, KS before the family moved to Winfield in 1966. Glen graduated from Winfield High School in 1968 and then enlisted in the US Navy serving as a signalman on the USS Oriskany aircraft carrier from 1969 to 1973. After serving, he returned to Winfield and worked as a truck driver for Coleman and Total Petroleum for many years before starting his career with KDOT in 2002 in road maintenance before becoming a highway and bridge inspector, retiring in 2015. On September 1, 1984, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet Roberts, at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. They made their home in Winfield and enjoyed watching their sons play sports as well as cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Glen was always listening to music and sharing his new favorite songs with his friends and family. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his friends at the VFW and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Glen is survived by his sons, Ryan Bennett (Amanda), and Casey Bennett (Shannon), granddaughters Katelyn and Abigail, and sisters Elaine Graham and Gail Littrell.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
