Gretchen Reed, 66, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at William Newton Hospital.
Born July 12, 1958, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Ralph and Nancy (Stenstrom) Miller. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1976. She then attended John Brown University and Emporia State before transferring to Southwestern College, where she received a Bachelor degree in Social Work in 1981. She then went to Wichita State University, receiving a Master degree in Education.
She married Blaine “Gene” Reed in September of 1981 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Emporia and later moved to Coffeyville. To this union, two children were born. The couple later divorced.
Gretchen started her career as a social worker with SRS. She then began a long career at the Kansas Veterans Home, where she remained until retiring in 2022.
She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. She enjoyed spending time at the family farm, horses, and watching sports, especially tennis and basketball. She was very involved in 4-H with her family and absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her daughter AnnHeidi Reed and significant other, Brandon of Winfield; her son Chase Reed and wife, Emma of Winfield; her brother Stenn Miller of Winfield; and her grandchildren, Violet, Ruby, and Fisher Reed, and Braun and Blay Smith.
In addition to her parents, Gretchen was preceded in death by her sister Heidi Ann Miller.
A private graveside service will take place at Tisdale Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship.
A memorial has been established in Gretchen’s name for Cowley County 4-H. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
