Iliene Marie Scheffe, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025, at Winfield Senior Living Community.
Born March 12, 1944, on the family farm near Burden, Kansas, she was the daughter of William H. “Bill” and Donna V. (Bolack) Fox. She was raised in Burden and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. Iliene studied for two years at Kansas State University following high school.
Iliene was united in marriage to Durwood D. “Woody” S
cheffe on May 9, 1970, in the chapel at the William Newton Memorial Hospital. The couple made their first home in Middletown, Ohio. Upon returning to Winfield, Iliene worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center, Kerr Alterations Department, William Newton Hospital, and Beckwith Dry Cleaners. She eventually began working in the food service for Winfield Middle School, retiring in 2000 as the supervisor. Woody preceded her in death on March 15, 2009.
Iliene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burden, as well as involved with the Tisdale 4-H and Eaton Community Clubs. She loved to cook, sew, and make jewelry so that she could bless everyone with her talents. Her friends and family were the joy of her life and she always had the most wonderful laugh.
Iliene’s family includes her daughter Bonnie Bennett of Carbondale; her sister Frances Lawrence; her grandchildren, Kimbra (Andrew) Nemmers, and Mason (Susan) Bennett; and her great grandchildren Daxton, Bruce and Clark; and three very special people in her life, Linda Blackburn, Mary Anne Braungardt and Betty Cox;
In addition to her parents and husband, Iliene was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Roth and Dorothy Westervelt.
A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service, Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2 to 4 P.M., with a prayer service taking place at 2:30. Per Iliene’s request, there will be no viewing. Interment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Iliene’s name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
