Illean Gail King, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, January 12, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born June 9, 1938, in El Dorado, Kansas, she was the daughter of Nolan and Cora (Quillen) McFarland. As a young child, her family moved a lot, until settling in Winfield, where Illean attended and graduated from Winfield High School in 1956.
She was united in marriage to James Lee King on June 24, 1955, at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Illean did secretarial work for TG&Y, JCPenney, and Glantz Plumbing and Heating. Jim preceded her in death on July 29, 2012.
She was a member of First Christian Church. The family enjoyed camping when they were younger. Illean enjoyed crafting of all kinds, especially scrapbooking, diamond painting, and barn quilts. After retirement, she and Jim enjoyed going on cruises. Illean especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her children, Kevin King and wife, Patricia of Gardner; Debra Carrasco of Winfield; Steven King of Pomona; her sisters, Patricia Kimrey of Derby; Judith McKee of Benton; Janet Schmidt of Wichita; her nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren with two on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, Illean was preceded in death by her son-in-law Octavio Carrasco.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Illean’s name for the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
