Illene Hutchins
1929-2026

Illene (McDaniel) Hutchins, of Cumbernauld, passed away July 19, 2026. Illene was born on September 9, 1929, to Herb and Martha McDaniel of Udall. After moving to Oxford, she went on to graduate from Winfield High School. She married Sterling Dale Hutchins, of Rainbow Bend, May 15th, 1949. They celebrated 75 years of marriage before his death in 2024.

She never wanted to be a "farmer" so she was always learning new things and discovered her love of painting in the 1960's going on to hone her artistic abilities until 2025. She painted everything that wasn't breathing: wood, rocks, bricks, gourds, propane tanks and even painted a Christmas ornament for the White House tree.

She loved music, playing the piano, organ and harmonica. Even dragged Dale to square dance lessons (and painted her square dance skirt).

When she wasn't painting, she loved travelling. Visiting the 48 contiguous states and 5 trips to Europe. When she was down to #48, North Dakota, she applied to Antique Road Show, jumping in the car with Sheryl they took off for Fargo.

She is missed and survived by her children Greg (Ardis) Hutchins of Madison WI, David (Betty) Hutchins of Geuda Springs KS and Sheryl King of Winfield KS.
Her grandchildren Luke (Joanna) Hutchins, Christine (Aaron) Webb, Jennifer (Jeremy) Bradford, Spencer (Heidi) King, Tyler (Amanda) Hutchins, Jessie Lucero and Shelbie (Kalen) Fitch. Great-grandchildren Max, Lexi, River, Aussie, Kutler, Holden, Everest and Chandler.

Strong-willed to the very end she dictated this remembrance and we wouldn't have it any other way.
