Jake R. Richardson
1940-2025

Jake Richardson, 84, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, February 7, 2025, at William Newton Hospital.

Jake R. Richardson was born in Skedee, Oklahoma on May 9, 1940 to Kenneth and Georgia (Callison) Richardson. He attended Skedee, Pawnee, and Blackburn schools, graduating from Maramec in 1958.

He went to work for Williams Brothers in East Liverpool, Ohio, as a rod man for engineers, then in Covington, Louisiana. He then went to work on oil rigs in Haigler, Nebraska, St. Francis, Kansas, and Washington Court House, Ohio.

On December 8, 1960, he married the love of his life, Lois Faye Krout. To this union four kids were born, Janet Lynn, Annetta Gayle, Bryan Jake, and Toni Dawn. Jake then worked for Curt Brown Drilling Company on oil rigs all over Oklahoma and Kansas. He went to work as an oil lease manager for Clyde Becker in 1976, and moved to Dexter, Kansas. In 2001, with the help of his son, he established Richardson and Son Oil Company. Lois preceded him in death on August 6, 2016.

Jake lived in Dexter for 48 years, working in many churches serving as Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and Trustee. In his spare time he enjoyed the grandkids sports and activities, trying to be there for them, and Sooner Football. In the last years of Jake’s life he was fortunate to find comfort and companionship in a close friend, Donna Martin.  With that love and kindness Jake was able to find that sparkle in his eye again.  She encouraged him to go to all the ball games, feed the cows and see the country.

His family includes his children, Annetta (Don) of Wichita; Bryan (Noel) of Winfield; Toni (Dusty) of Emporia; his brother Kendall (LaRhonda) of Oklahoma City; his sister-in-law Mary Lou of Cushing; his grandchildren, Trevor (Lily) of Norman; Paige of Wichita; Jenna of Manhattan; Gage of Wichita; Lynnli of Emporia; T.J. of Emporia; Troy of Emporia; Katie of Emporia; and Zoey of Emporia; his great grandchild, Remy of Norman; and numerous other children in the community that he loved as his own.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jake was preceded in death by a daughter Janet, a sister Letha Dean, a brother Lewis F. “Sonny”, and a son-in-law Greg Storm.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet from 4 to 6 that evening.
