He was born July 29th, 1933 in Canton Oklahoma to Esther Amy (Lorenz) Reed and Ralph Noah Reed. The family moved to Winfield in 1948. Jim graduated from Winfield High School in 1952. Jim’s true passion was teaching and coaching. His mentor, Curly Vaughn was instrumental in bringing Jim to Winfield High School and coaching tennis. Coach Reed led his teams to many high school conference, regional and state championships. His winning ways were rewarded by being named the National High School Coach of the year in 1978.
