Jana Kaye Elder, 65, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, October 16, 2024, at Winfield Rest Haven.
Born April 19, 1959 in Carthage, Missouri, she was the daughter of John W. and Bette Jean (Ellis) Elder. Jana was raised in Carthage for the first several years of her life before the family moved to Winfield for John’s work. She received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School with the class of 1977.
Jana married Dwight Nix in 1993. The couple had one daughter and later divorced. Later, Jana married Dan Wood. They were married for a few years then divorced.
Jana was an active member of Central Baptist Church. She loved Winfield and its people, always considering Winfield her hometown. As a young woman, Jana enjoyed participating in various mental health groups and even serving as the national secretary for a group that traveled to Washington D.C.
Jana’s family includes her brother John W. Elder, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Surprise, AZ, and her daughter Anastasia Nix of Winfield. In addition to her parents, Jana was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Elder and Charles Elder.
The family will hold memorial services at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Central Baptist Church. Private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Central Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
