John Virgil Ozbun, 68, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at his home.
Born October 24, 1956, in Winfield, he was the son of Thomas D. and Sylvia C. (Sonntag) Ozbun. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1974.
He married Sherri Hopper in 1974. To this union, a son was born. The couple later divorced. John worked for a short time as a painter for Cessna at Strother Field. He then began his career with Cox Cable beginning as an Installer and retiring 29 years later, as a District Manager. After retiring from Cox, he worked for WalMart.
He was a very active volunteer with the Winfield Food Pantry. He enjoyed collecting matchbooks, coins, and VHS tapes. When he was younger, he enjoyed drag racing in Ark City and attending car shows. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
His family includes his son Darrell Ozbun and wife, Melanie of Kansas City, MO; his mother Sylvia Ozbun of Winfield; his brothers, Paul Ozbun and wife, Jean of Hastings, NE; Mark Ozbun and wife, Sue of Portland, OR; his grandchildren, Sam Brewer of Olathe; Jace Brewer and wife, Natasha of Kansas City, MO; and his great grandchild Juniper Brewer.
John was preceded in death by his father.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Grace United Methodist Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
A memorial has been established in John’s name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
