Johnny M. Walker
1948-2025

Johnny Mac Walker of Arkansas City KS, 77, passed away surrounded by family on November 3rd, 2025, at St Francis Hospital in Wichita KS after years of fighting illness.

Johnny Walker was born on April 7th, 1948, to Jack and Irene (Sims) Walker in Arkansas City KS. Johnny attended Arkansas City High School graduating in 1966. Johnny started working for G.E. the summer after graduating high school, retiring after 41 years.

Johnny married Sharla Harp, though this relationship wasn’t permanent, they did have two children together, Kelli Potter and Christopher Walker.

Johnny married Betty Walker in Arkansas City KS on January 10th, 1976, gaining two children, Tim Walker and Latresha Swopes.

He was a lifetime Auxiliary Member of the Spencer Ralston V.F.W. Post #1254 and Shelton Beaty American Legion Post #18, along with being a Mason at Crescent Lodge #133 A.F. & A.M. Johnny had many joys in life with his NASCAR rallies, hunting, fishing, and we all know Golfing.

Johnny was a collector of black bear memorabilia, knives, and marbles. His wife had him collecting flamingos. He loved adding to his collections. Many knew Big John Walker. He will be remembered for his cabin parties, his big laugh, and how he knew everyone.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister-in-laws Bobby and Kathleen Walker, Dick and Nadine Walker, Billy Walker; half-brother Howard Walker; sister Mary Ruth Walker; and grandson John Thomas Walker.

He survived by his wife Betty Walker of 49 years; his brother Jerry and Delorice Walker; sister-in-law Sandra Walker; sons Christopher and Kathy Walker, Tim and Brenda Walker; daughters Kelli Potter, Latresha and Monte Swopes; grandchildren Tori Anstine, Amanda Swopes, Skyla Walker, Jessica Walker, Sara Walker, Kelci and Charles Rupe, Ryan and Jenni Potter, Jacob and Andrea Potter, Andrew Potter, Lauren Potter; great grandchildren Nathanial Hawley, EmmaLee Swopes, Matthew Walker, Kimber Walker, Easton Walker, Zoey Walker, Hayden Walker, Timothy Walker, Brantley Bigley, Blaine Bigley, Grayson Snow, Charlotte Snow, Chaston Rupe, Ledger Rupe, Tayden Potter, Kaspen Potter, Wrenlyn Potter, Owen Potter, Rosalyn Potter, Lincoln Potter

There will be a Celebration of Life at V.F.W. Post 1254 in Arkansas City KS, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm. A come and go event, bring your favorite Big John memory.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Johnny Walker to V.F.W. Post 1254, Tunnel to Towers, Shriners Children’s, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. These are charities Johnny has supported for years.

The family has entrusted Affordable Cremations Plus in Wichita, Kansas with his care.
