Lawrence P. King, Jr.
1944 - 2026

Lawrence P. King, Jr., 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, January 1, 2026, at his home.

Born September 29, 1944, in Winfield, he was the son of Lawrence P. and D. Brunise (Bragg) King. His family lived in Phoenix City, Alabama for a short time while he was young before returning to Winfield in 1953. There, Larry finished his education, graduating from Winfield High School in 1963.

Larry was united in marriage to Jeanette Kay Schmidt on June 17, 1966, in Wichita. The couple made their first home in Arkansas City before moving to Winfield. In 1974, the family settled into their forever home on the family farm north of Winfield. Larry worked as an insurance agent for MetLife and a dispatcher for Winfield Police Department before starting his career in agriculture. Later in life, he worked in aviation and drove trucks until retiring. He enjoyed watching sports. Jeanette preceded him in death on November 23, 2023.

His family includes his children, Maria King of Wichita; Lawrence P. King, III of Winfield; James King and wife, Jennifer of Winfield; his sister Diane Bowlin and Brian Rowan of Winfield; his grandchildren, Lucas King, Silver Pederson, Amelia King, and Eloise King; his great granddaughter Ryann Lynn Ingram; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Larry was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy “Dot” Bailey and a brother LeRoy King.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
