Leonard Calvin Holt, 94, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Thursday night, October 30, 2025, at his home.
Born January 21, 1931, in Atlanta, he was the son of Calvin and Mabel (Lanier) Holt. He was reared on his parents’ farm and attended Prairie View rural schools. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1949. Prior to joining the Marines, he farmed with his dad and brothers. In 1952, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served as a Tank Mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1954. After his honorable discharge, he worked a few jobs in Wichita including Boeing.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy “Janet” Yoder on June 9, 1957, at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home west of Atlanta where they started their family farm. In addition to growing crops, Leonard’s passion was raising pigs and backgrounding cattle. He retired from farming in 2012. Janet preceded him in death on March 27, 2017.
Leonard was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and served on the Richland Township Board for numerous years. In addition to farming, he enjoyed welding, spending time with grandkids and great grandkids, listening to polka music, analyzing numbers “figuring”, and providing much needed farming advice to Doug and Diane.
In addition to his parents and wife, Leonard was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Davis and Nancy Finney, three brothers, Ralph Holt, Glen Holt, and Raymond Holt, and an infant son Craig Calvin Holt.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 7, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Leonard’s name for Prairie View United Methodist Church and for the Atlanta Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
