Mark W. Martin, 70, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, November 26, 2024 at his home.
Born October 29, 1954 in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Ray Harold and Eula Mae (Bair) Martin. He was raised and received his education in Maple City and Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1972. He then attended Cowley County Community College, receiving his associate degree in 1974.
He was united in marriage to Debra R. Weaver on June 15, 1974. The couple made their first home in Girard before moving to Burden, where they owned and operated the Arctic Locker for nearly 20 years. Mark then began ranching near Dexter where he was raised. They ran a hog consignment farm for nearly 15 years as well as raising cattle. In 2017 the couple built their dream home, and Mark fulfilled a lifelong dream of building his own lake in his backyard.
He was a member of Burden United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting, especially quail. He was an avid tournament poker player, winning numerous tournaments, including two WSOP Circuit events.
Mark’s family includes his wife of 50 years Debra Martin of Dexter; his daughters, Andrea Jacobs and husband, C.J.; Abby Johnson and husband, Jon; Ashley Ryel and husband, Lance; his brother, Dale Martin and wife, Racee; his sisters, Kathleen Beltz and husband, Rick; Denise Zimmerman and husband, Gary; his grandchildren, Brittany Parks and husband, Kyle; Aidan Jacobs; Anabel Jacobs; Keaton Johnson and wife, Abbey; Charlee Johnson; Piper Ryel; Preston Ryel; and a great grandchild, Sutton Parks, and one on the way.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at a later date under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
