1962 - 2025
Michael Eugene Todd, 63, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025, at his home.
Born August 10, 1962, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, he was the son of Oliver Franklin and Nina Ann (Gooch) Todd. He spent the first four years of his life in eastern New Mexico and western Texas, before moving with his family to Augusta, Kansas, in 1966. He was raised and received his education in Augusta, graduating from Augusta High School in 1980. Following school, he worked for a short time at Augusta Hospital and Pizza Hut before beginning his career with Walmart.
Mike moved to Winfield to begin management training with Walmart. While in Winfield, he met and fell in love with Sonja Ruggles. The couple were united in marriage on January 5, 1985, at Tisdale Methodist Church. The couple made their first home in Pratt where Mike worked as an assistant manager for Walmart. Throughout their marriage, the couple moved numerous times as Mike was promoted with Walmart including Liberal, KS; Pampa, TX; Garden City, KS; Cedar City, UT; and Duluth, GA. In Pine Top, AZ, he was first promoted to co-manager, and while in Union City, GA, a Chinese delegation came to the store Mike managed before deciding to allow Walmarts in China. In 1998, Mike left Walmart and returned to Augusta, KS, to build a home on his family’s homestead.
He attended Tisdale Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, working with leather, gardening, and shooting guns. He especially enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
His family includes his wife Sonja Todd; his children, Jessica Todd (Thomas), Joshua Todd (Kellie), and Jarod Todd (Kaitlin); his sisters, Shirley Gordon (Johnny); Linda Boggess (Doug); Patty Kuntz (James); Bessie Wood; his grandchildren, Drayton, Julianna, Thomas III, Adrian, Isabella, Alessandra, Jackson, Kailyn, Jade, and Jace.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a sister Mary Alachniewicz and his parents-in-law, Melvin and Pearl Ruggles.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Tisdale Methodist Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
The Michael Todd Memorial has been established to benefit his grandchildren. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
