MSGT James Levi Kittelson USAF, Ret., 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Jim was born November 28, 1946, in Winfield, Kansas, the son of Millard D. and Glorine (Littrell) Kittelson. He was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1965. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic.
Jim married Carrie Delci in June of 1968. Two daughters were born to this union, Angela and Veronica. The couple later divorced. During his 20-year military career, Jim was stationed around the world, including assignments in Vietnam, Iceland, and England. After retiring, he returned to Winfield to tend the family farm.
Jim was united in marriage to Debra Berwert on September 20, 1989, at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, and Jim became a devoted dad to Deb’s two daughters, Jennifer and Michelle. Jim worked for the Department of Defense as a Quality Assurance Specialist, retiring after 20 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post #10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544. Jim enjoyed working on and racing his Nova "The Dreamer", horseback riding, playing poker, farming, and fishing with his dad. In his younger years, he also enjoyed riding broncs in rodeos. He was a proud Kansas City Chiefs fan. Above all, he especially loved spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Deb Kittelson of Winfield; his children, Angela Guana and husband Jesse of Chandler, Arizona; Veronica Boolman and husband Dan of Mesa, Arizona; Jennifer Delaney and husband Travis of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and Michelle McCullough and husband Dennis of Winfield; his siblings, Trudy Kittelson and wife Lee Ann Moats of Derby; Teresa Jacobs and husband Jake of Whitewater; Janet Hostetter and husband Dale of Winfield; and Randy Kittelson of Winfield; ten grandchildren, Michon, Jarred, Khaeli, Zachary, Isaiah, KyLeigh, Kalyn, Emma, Tatum and Benjamin; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron Kittelson; a sister-in-law, Gretchen Kittelson; a brother-in-law, Curtis Roland; and his beloved dog, Cricket.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military Committal Honors will follow.
Memorials have been established in Jim’s name for VFW Post #3544 and American Legion Post #10. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
