Nancy Karen Sargent, 69, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2025, at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Born September 25, 1956, in New Milford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Edward Grinnell, and Alda and Bob Woodworth. She was raised and received her education in both New Milford and Sierra Vista, Arizona.
She was united in marriage to James Sargent on March 8, 1985, in Bisbee, Arizona. The couple made their first home in Arizona before moving to Hawaii in 1986. The family moved to Fort Riley, Kansas in 1991, where Nancy began her career as a Medical Transcriptionist at Irwin Army Community Hospital. She remained at IACH for over 20 years until retiring in 2014. The couple then moved to Aurora, Indiana where she worked briefly for Global Atlantic. She settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 2022 where she enjoyed retirement life for her last few years.
She enjoyed reading, going for walks, going to the mountains, and spending time with her grandkids, Addison and Brentlee. When she was younger, she loved horses and enjoyed going horseback riding.
She is survived by her family which includes her husband James Sargent of Ponca City, OK; her children, Jennifer-Lynn Patterson and husband, Allen of Herington, KS; Della “Sherrie” Sargent-Long and husband, Craig of Felton, DE; Sonya Sargent of Georgetown, DE; Tracy Sargent and wife, Carol of Georgetown, DE; her brother Ed Grinnell and wife, Leslie of Shelburne Falls, MA; her sister Sandra Heran and husband, Bruce of Sierra Vista, AZ; and her ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 17, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Nancy’s name for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
