Norma L. Young, 69, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, at William Newton Hospital.
Born May 25, 1956, in Cumberland, Maryland, she was the daughter of Leo and Lucy (Sherman) Seibert. She was raised and received her education in Cumberland, graduating from Allegany High School in 1974. Following high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force where she proudly served her country until her honorable discharge in November of 1978. While stationed at Fort Nellis, she met William Young and the couple married on September 8, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Norma remained with the Air Force with the active reserve and as a civilian contractor until 1991.
Norma spent most of her life in customer service, working in offices, as a secretary and as a service writer. She began working in the forklift industry for Eaheart in Richmond, Virginia. In 2008, Norma and William moved back to Wichita, Kansas to be near family. While in Wichita, she worked for Kansas Forklift and later for Lift Parts. In 2014, they moved to Burden, Kansas, and she remained at Lift Parts until retiring in 2019.
Norma enjoyed homesteading, raising chickens and rabbits, and tending to her garden. She was a people person who loved meeting new friends. More than anything, she loved time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her husband William D. Young of Burden; her sons, Alan Young and wife, Jessica of Winfield; Scott Young and wife, Tonylyn of Wichita; her sisters, Kathy Robinson of Cumberland, MD; Ruth Ann Northcraft of Cumberland, MD; her brother Joseph Seibert of Cumberland, MD; and her grandchildren, Samuel, Sophie, Lucie, Daniel, Avery, Alexis, and Aaliyah.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by a brother Michael Seibert.
Private graveside military honors will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
A memorial has been established in Norma’s name for the American Legion Post 10. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
