Novice Marlene Hutchinson-Hines, lovingly known as Marlene, was born on August 12, 1940, in Sumner County, Kansas and passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, in Winfield, Kansas, at the age of 86.
Marlene grew up in Mayfield, Kansas, where she made many cherished memories and formed lifelong connections with family and friends. She married Gary L. Hutchinson, and together they built their family. Marlene devoted herself to raising their children, Julie and Joni, and took great pride in being a loving and dedicated mother.
Following the passing of her husband, Gary, Marlene began working outside the home. She worked at Security State Bank and later at Panhandle Federal Credit Union, where she remained until her retirement. Through her years of work, she touched the lives of many people with her kindness and warm personality.
Later in life, Marlene united in marriage with Dale I. Hines. The couple made their home in Dalton, Kansas, where they shared many years together.
Marlene was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She had a special love for dogs, treasured her family deeply, and absolutely loved to shop—especially watching and shopping through QVC. Her family will always remember her for the love she gave, the memories she created, and the unique personality that made her so special.
Marlene is survived by her granddaughter, Laci Jenkins of Winfield, Kansas; her nephew, Jeff Mortimer of Mayfield, Kansas; and many beloved cousins and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Julie Jenkins and Joni Ford; her twin daughter and son, Marla and Kevin Hutchinson; her husband, Dale I. Hines; her first husband, Gary L. Hutchinson; her parents, Lucerne and Velmar Barry; her brothers, Marvin Barry and Dwayne Barry; and her sister, Virginia “Ginny” Barry-Mortimer.
Though Marlene's passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory will live on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Graveside services for Marlene will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2026 at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given in her name and loving memory to the Wellington Humane Society, PO Box 494, Wellington, Kansas 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
