Jarrod LongWinfield, KS
Jarrod Long, born January 22, 1970, in Winfield, Kansas, passed away on February 13, 2025 at his home. Son of David and Sherry (Steele) Long, Jarrod graduated from Winfield High School in 1988. His early work experiences included stocking shelves and assisting customers to their car at Dillons as well as working the counter at Parts Unlimited helping customers purchase automotive parts. In 1990 he embarked on a remarkable 35-year career to which he drove daily by himself, at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita starting as a Parts Expeditor and advanced to the position of Material Requirements Planner, Sr. a role he held at the time of his passing. On September 9, 2016, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Missy Colston, in Miami, OK. Jarrod's passions extended beyond his career. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He also explored off-road trails on ATVs and found great joy working on automobiles. A member of the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders, as well as a lifetime member of the NRA, Jarrod was committed to organizations he believed in. However, his true passion lay in racing. From 1986 to 2005, he competitively raced his family's '68 Chevrolet Camaro, achieving a top speed of 157.20 mph and a quarter-mile time of 8.499 seconds. His racing career was marked by several class championships. Above all else, Jarrod cherished the time spent with his wife and their beloved “fur-babies”. Jarrod is survived by his wife, Missy Long of Winfield, his parents Dave and Sherry Long, Mustang, OK, son, James Sexton (Amy Acridge), Winfield, daughter Elaine Sexton (Kevin Elam), Ark City. Grandchildren Donivan Pietro, Lilliana Butler, Addison Butler and Nick Acridge. Brother Jason Leslie Long, Mustang, Nephew Jason Bradley (Rachel) Long, Mustang and numerous aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, CB Long, Gene and Eva Lawrence, Barbara and Leslie Steele, and uncles Bud Long, Larry Long, Larry Steele, and Bob Barker. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Shelley funeral Home in Winfield, KS; graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery.
