
1934 - 2026
Patricia McNown, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 1, 2026, at William Newton Hospital.
She was born in South Haven, Kansas on Sunday, October 21, 1934 to Carl Virgil “CV” “Curly” and Opal (Bacon) Kearn. She attended school in Drury, Kansas in a one room school until the fifth grade. She then finished grade school, junior high and high school in Caldwell, graduating from Caldwell High School in May of 1952. After graduation, she worked at different places and did a lot of babysitting.
She married James Emory Dillard on Sunday, November 30, 1952. A son, James Alan was born. The couple later divorced. While working in Winfield some years later, she became acquainted with Harrison “Pee Wee” McNown. The couple married on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1965. She became a mom to David and Robert, with three boys already and then joined by another son Scott William McNown.
Pat was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. After Pee Wee’s retirement, the couple ran Klepper’s Service Station on the north end of Winfield. Pat enjoyed going to the donut shop and meeting friends for coffee. Pee Wee preceded her in death on April 13, 2012.
She enjoyed “circle the word” puzzles, embroidering, watching tv, soap operas, game shows, Perry Mason, and In The Heat Of The Night. She embroidered many quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and many more for other loved ones. When Robert and Scott were in Cub Scouts, she enjoyed being a Den Mother and helping with Pine Wood Derbies and chili suppers.
She is survived by her sons, Robert McNown and wife, Tami of Winfield; Scott McNown and wife, Andrea of Winfield; David McNown and wife, Faye of Bonneau, SC; daughter-in-law Melody Dillard; sister Kay Fast and husband Lee Roy of Mulvane; grandchildren, Justin McNown, Josh McNown (Nikki), Brittney Green (Josh), Jordan McNown (Madisyn), Alisha Montgomery (Seth), Scotty McNown (Rachel), Kevin McNown, Bryan McNown, Jamie Dillard; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was preceded in death by a son James Alan Dillard, daughter-in-law Sue McNown, grandson Steven McNown, and brother Carl “Jr.” Kearn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 10, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4 to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Pat’s name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
