Phyllis G. Griffith, 91, of rural Winfield, Kansas, died March 17, 2025, at Winfield Senior Living Community, following a short illness.
The daughter of Frank and Alma Rouch, she was born August 28, 1933, in Winfield. The youngest of four, she was raised near Hackney and educated in Winfield. Phyllis married Royce Moon on May 2, 1954, in Winfield where they farmed and raised their sons until Royce retired in 1975. Separated in 1986, Phyllis married Elmer Griffith on November 28, 1987, and made their home in Arkansas City and later returned to Winfield.
Phyllis was known for supporting her family, her well-organized housekeeping, and good cooking. She worked for the State Bank and Winfield Council on Aging, and was a long-time member of Millington Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael and wife Kristine Moon, Martin and wife Deanna Moon, of Winfield; 11 grandchildren, Christopher and wife Angie Moon, Shawna and husband Robert Meyers, Jonathan and wife Kylie Moon near Kansas City, Matthew Moon of Winfield, Timothy and wife Bethany Bishop of Topeka, Brittany Bishop of Winfield, Vanessa Moon of Udall, Rachel Moon of Arkansas City, Kathy Moon of Goddard, Mariah and husband Manuel Berumen of Wichita, and Sahara Moon of Winfield; 22 great-grandchildren, Justin, Piper, Quinley, Tobais, Holden and Declan Moon, Courtnay, Hannah and Courtney Bishop, Abigael and Adden Riley, Preslee Meyers, Charlie and her husband Dan Casper, Aurora, Jasper and Rourke Wallace, Demetri and Dayton Howard, Caden and Emitt Bradshaw, Chandlyr Morris, Andres and Bricela Berumen; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Charles McConnell of Rose Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Milton Andrew Moon, her parents, husband Elmer, sisters Margie and her husband Omer Smith, Jean McConnell, and brother Marvin Rouch and his wife Ann.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 24, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service with Rev. Don McFarlane officiating. Interment will follow at Tisdale Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Phyllis’ name for the Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
