Rebecca “Becky” Ann (LeHew) Bumgarner, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, March 24, 2025, at William Newton Hospital.
Born June 28, 1948, in Independence, Missouri, she was the daughter of Mary (O’Connell) LeHew. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1966. She then attended Wichita Business College for a year.
Becky was united in marriage to Byron Bumgarner on August 25, 1967, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. Shortly after getting married, the couple moved to Renton, Washington where they both worked for Boeing. In 1970, they moved to Chula Vista, California for Byron’s job, and in 1972, to Sunnyvale, California. They made their home in San Jose, California in 1981 where they raised their children. Becky worked in bookkeeping and as a receptionist for various companies, including Garden State International. She also ran the office of Byron’s business, West Engineering. They returned to Winfield in 2002 to be near family and Becky worked as a bookkeeper at the Winfield Country Club.
She was an active member of ESA. She loved attending and supporting the South Kansas Symphony and the Winfield Municipal Band. She enjoyed golfing, cross-stitching, shopping, and playing games and coloring on her IPad. She collected angels and loved animals of all kinds, including sloths, owls, and cats.
Her family includes her husband Byron Bumgarner of Winfield; her children, Erika Spencer and husband, Tyler of Bel Aire; Chris Bumgarner and wife, Betsy of Andover; her grandsons, Brandon and Todd Bumgarner; a dear cousin-in-law Annie Lanning; and numerous fur grandbabies.
In addition to her mother, Becky was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Kate and Tom Lanning, and cousin Joe Lanning.
A casual, come as you are, visitation with the family will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 2 to 4 P.M.
Memorials have been established in Becky’s name for the South Kansas Symphony and for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
