1949-2025

Roger Herbert Voorhis, 76, of Newkirk, OK, passed away peacefully at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center with his loving wife by his side on Saturday, April 26, 2025. After a courageous battle with cancer lasting over a year, Roger was called to be with our Lord and Savior.
Born on March 15, 1949, in Arkansas City, KS, Roger was the son of Herbert and Joyce (Martin) Voorhis. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1967, then enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 with the 101st Airborne Division.
Upon completing his military service, Roger met Janie Potterton, the love of his life. They married on June 23, 1972, and together built a home filled with love, laughter, and dedication. Roger worked at Cessna in Wichita, KS, before accepting a role as a draftsman for the City of Arkansas City, KS. During this time, he and Janie built their home together—a place where they raised their family and continued to reside.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, cherishing time with his loved ones. He and Janie were blessed with two children, Derek and Jana. Later in his career, he worked for Consumer Products, retiring in 2011.
Known for his quiet-natured spirit, Roger had a gift for making others smile. He deeply loved his family, was an avid reader, had a passion for learning, and was an incredible artist. Above all, Roger was a God-fearing man who cherished his faith, knew his scriptures, and walked closely with his Heavenly Father. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife Janie, son Derek Voorhis and wife Deidre of Udall, KS, daughter Jana Hayes and husband Todd of Ponca City, OK, brothers Steve Voorhis and wife Rita of Burrton, KS, and Tom Voorhis and Sharon of Arkansas City, KS.
