Ronald Floyd Sontag, 75, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2025, at Via Christi St. Francis.
Born July 6, 1950, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Floyd H. “Sing” and Ada I. (Miller) Sontag. He was raised on a farm near Atlanta, Kansas. He received his elementary education in Latham and attended high school at Central High School in Burden.
Ron was united in marriage to Karen I. Birdsell in 1989. The couple made their home in Wichita. In the early 1970’s, Ron started out working in computer programming. He later went to work for Watkin’s Inc. becoming Vice President, before taking a position with Case Supply. He served as Chief with the Atlanta Fire Department and was a member of the Midian Shriner’s. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, and collecting coins.
His family includes his wife Karen Sontag; his brother Monte Sontag; his sons, Ronnie Sontag, Jr., Aaron Sontag; his step-son Steven Aldershof; his grandchildren, Tasha Woods, Sierra Everson, Taylor Sontag, Sydney Warren, Nicholas Warren, Mackenna Aldershof, Easton Aldershof; and his great grandchildren, Leanne Quiggley, Trenton Gilchrist, and Taylor Sontag.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a step-daughter Kara Warren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 14, 2025, at Latham Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
A memorial has been established in Ronald’s name for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
