Ruth Berneice Martin, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, March 25, 2026, at Winfield Senior Living.
Born August 2, 1928, in Douglass, Kansas, she was the daughter of Lee and Nellie (Johnson) Rogers. She was raised and received her education in Douglass and Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1946.
She was united in marriage to Charles Marion Martin on January 19, 1946, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield and farmed land near Burden, Kansas. Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. In addition to farming in the Burden area, they leased ground in Montana, and would travel there every summer to work the land. Mr. Martin preceded her in death on October 11, 2000.
Ruth attended First United Methodist Church in Winfield. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, needlepoint, and sewing.
Her family includes her sons, Michael M. Martin of Chanute; Ronnie L. Martin and wife, Patty of Winfield; her daughter Cheryl L. Rathbun and husband, Roy of Ellis; her grandchildren, Lisa Wood, Wes Rathbun, Chris Martin, Jenny Martin, Kevin Martin, Jeff Martin, and Chet Martin; and her 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Wayne Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday, from Noon to 4 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Ruth’s name for First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
