Sandra Ellen “Sandi” Tomevi
1949 - 2026

Sandra Ellen “Sandi” Tomevi, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, July 1, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Born March 31, 1949, in Billings, Montana, she was the daughter of John F. and Ruby E. (Bailey) Schmidt. She was raised and received her education in Billings, graduating from Billings West High School. She graduated from Montana Institute of the Bible with a degree in Christian Education.

She was united in marriage to Russell A. Tomevi on December 29, 1971, in Billings. The couple made their first home in Peoria, Illinois, where Sandi worked as a secretary at Peoria Christian Center. In 1979, the family moved to Winfield, Kansas, and Sandi worked at State Farm Insurance, first for Ralph Hanna and later for Marcus Adler. After over 20 years in insurance, she began her career as a paraprofessional, working with special needs students at Winfield High School. She remained at the high school until retiring in 2017.

She enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places and people, loving both mountains and beaches alike. She also cherished time and adventures with family and friends. She found great joy in spoiling her family, solving puzzles, and collecting vintage items and plants together. Known for her eccentric and colorful personality and appearance, she exuded safety, comfort, and graciousness to all.

She is survived by her husband, Russ Tomevi of Winfield; her children, Tyler Tomevi of Winfield; Tierney Hopkins and husband, Chad of Winfield; her brother, Harvey Schmidt and wife, Mary, of Jackson, WY; her sister, Diana Mysse and husband, Steve of Billings, MT; her grandchildren, Treyten Hopkins, Victoria Tomevi, Paycie Hopkins, Nathan Calvin, and JP Adams; her three great-grandchildren, Gianni, Oaklynn, and Cole; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sandi was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Noah.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home for Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Sandi’s name for Whittier Elementary School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
