Sharon Kay Cooper
1944 - 2025

Sharon Kay Cooper, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, January 22, 2025, at William Newton Hospital.

Born January 26, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of Wayne and Bertha (Wulf) Ioerger. She was raised and received her education in Cheney, Kansas, graduating from Cheney High School in 1962. She furthered her education at Emporia State University, where she majored in Music with an emphasis in Classical Music.

Sharon was united in marriage to John C. Cooper on November 18, 1967, in Cheney, Kansas. The couple moved a lot with John’s career, living in Honolulu, Hawaii; Bellevue, Washington; Plano, Texas; and Alexandria, Virgina, among many other places. John preceded her in death in 2006. Following John’s passing, Sharon moved to Winfield to be near family. It was in Winfield that she found home in her church community, Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Golden Eagles and loved participating in Bible studies. Sharon was a political science enthusiast, enjoyed flower gardening on her porch, and loved the Rose of Sharon which is the image on her wedding china. She took great pride in keeping her home in immaculate condition.

Her family includes her son Chris Cooper and wife, Chelsea of Arlington, TX; her sister Charmaine Paulin and husband, Rev. John Paulin of Winfield; her brother Curtis Ioerger of Hutchinson; and her nieces and nephews, Kristina, Shawna, Brad, Brian, and Amanda.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Sharon’s name for Trinity Lutheran Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
