Sheryl Raye Baker, 79, of Arkansas City, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation. Donations may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home.
Sheryl was born on March 18, 1946, in Wellington, KS, to parents M. Eugene and Bessie “Jackie” (Orchid) Donley. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1964 and would later obtain her Medical Assistant's Diploma from the Bryan Institute in 1979. On December 30, 1988, she married Larry Baker, her husband of 36 years, in Arkansas City. She worked at Montgomery Elevators in Strother Field for over 2 decades, starting at the bottom and working her way up to the head of shipping. Sheryl was also the owner of the State Line Bar. In her early years, she raised and showed paint horses south of Oxford, and would later breed boxers, which was her absolute favorite breed of dog. She enjoyed gardening and had a deep passion for the Kansas City Chiefs, of whom she was a long-term fan alongside her whole family, which she cherished.
Sherly is survived by her husband, Larry G. Baker, children, April Patton, Chet Houston (Marcy), Kimberly Houston, Brandon Baker (Tara), and Dawn Williams, grandchildren, Calon Patton, Sean Baker, Brynna Seaton, Ashlyn Houston, Faith Houston, Rylee Williams, Mason Baker, Adison Carter, and Zoey Baker, great-grandchildren, Gunner Baker, Parker William Jellings, Delilah Jayde Austin. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Buddy Donley.
