Teresa “Terri” L. Higdon
1951 - 2024

Teresa L. “Terri” Higdon, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, December 6, 2024, at her home.

Born October 30, 1951, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Barry and Mary Jo (McKeever) Holmes. She was raised and received her education in both Udall and Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1969. After living in Dallas for a short time, she returned to Udall in 1981. She then attended Cowley County Community College and later Southwestern College, graduating in 1985 with a degree in teaching.

She was united in marriage to Jeffery S. Higdon on January 16, 1993, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Terri taught elementary school for over 25 years, retiring in 2010.

She was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, and cross-stitch. She especially enjoyed making things for her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband Jeff Higdon of Winfield; her daughters, Tanya Chancellor and fiance, Jason of Wellington; Cathi Wilson and husband, Greg of Wheaton; her sister Cathy McElroy and husband, Tom; her brothers, Steve Holmes and David Holmes and wife, Jennifer; her step-siblings, Mike Head and Debbie Bailey; her grandchildren, Stephanie Duncan (Brad), London Proctor, Joseph Proctor, Ashley Koppelmann (Zach), Blake Wilson, Betrai Taylor, Braezy Taylor; and her great grandchildren, Kyrie Duncan, Elliott Duncan, Breyer Duncan, Myles Koppelmann, and Anders Koppelmann.

In addition to her parents, Terri was preceded in death by her first husband Jeff Chancellor, a brother Michael Holmes, and a step-sister Vicki Gray.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 13, 2024, at Grandview United Methodist Church. Private family interment will be held at Highland Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

Memorials have been established in Terri’s name for the Cowley County Humane Society and for the Eagle’s Nest. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
