Wallace “Lynn” Thompson
1939 - 2025

Wallace Lynn Thompson, 85, previously of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, April 27, 2025, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born June 10, 1939, in Borger, Texas, he was the son of Harold and Margaret (Holryod) Thompson. He was raised in Borger, spending Summer and Christmas times in Cedar Vale until moving to Cedar Vale and graduating high school in 1957. He then attended Cowley County Community College and Southwestern College, receiving a Bachelor degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman 2nd Class for four years before being honorably discharged.

As a young boy, Lynn worked at the meat market in Borger and later the locker in Cedar Vale, as well as Dairy Queen, Haliburton, and Dillons. He would later own and operate Gordon and Piatt Energy Group, retiring in 1998. Lynn was married and had five children and later divorced. He was united in marriage to Karen Junkins on July 7, 1998, in Cripple Creek, Colorado. The couple made their home in Winfield, moving to Cedar Vale in 2001. Karen preceded him in death on June 15, 2019.

Lynn was a member of the Church of Christ in Cedar Vale. He enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts, rocks, and meteorites. He was also an avid stamp and coin collector. He enjoyed watching television and would spend 24 hours watching GunSmoke, All In The Family, and Roseann.

His family includes his daughters, Elizabeth O’Bryan and husband, Rob of Burden; Virginia Smith (Gordon Kaiser) of Winfield; Kim Fleetwood and husband, Wayne of Arkansas City; Misty Weaver of Winfield; his brother Mark Allan Thompson; sister Martha Naoma Timblin; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lynn was preceded in death by his son Corbin Scott Thompson, brothers Jerry Martin Thompson and Kenneth Dale Thompson, sister Judith Carol Owens, grandson Christian, and sons-in-law, Dave Smith and Craig Peri.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 2, 2025, at Ozro Falls Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service Thursday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Lynn’s name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
