After more than 17 years of coaching high school basketball, former Sedan High School basketball coach Lance Jeffers is making the jump to the collegiate level as he was recently hired to be Todd Clark’s top assistant on the Cowley College women’s basketball coaching staff.

Jeffers is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the Sedan High School girls’ basketball program, leading the Blue Devils to a record of 224-131 in 16 years as head coach. He was equally impressive as the boys’ head basketball coach, going 171-52 in 10 years leading the program.

He was named All-Area Coach of the Year an eye-popping six times while leading the Sedan basketball teams to 10 league titles and four state tournament appearances. His Blue Devil teams hung their hats on playing an up-tempo offense to go along with a stingy defense.

“Coach Jeffers has great experience as a long-time head coach, which will be beneficial for us,” Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. “I have enjoyed watching his teams play in the past, and I think he will help us get better.”

This past season, Jeffers was an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Wellsville High School, where he led the Eagles to a record of 19-5 and a trip to the state tournament.

Jeffers earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University and a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Baker University.

He is looking forward to making the jump to the collegiate level.

“I have known coach (Todd) Clark for quite a while,” Jeffers said. “We got connected when I was coaching at Sedan. I always liked the way his teams played. We have very similar philosophies, so I felt very honored and humbled when he called. I am excited to work with Coach Clark, the players, and the entire athletic department.”
