Ark City and Winfield high school football teams are in the second round of the Kansas Class 4A playoff bracket tonight.
Ark City (3-6) will be at McPherson (8-1) with kickoff at 7. Brady Bauman will have the call on 103.3 FM/1280 AM KSOK. Pregame will begin around 6:40 with head coach Jon Wiemers.
The Bulldogs, the No. 10 seed on the west side of the bracket, will be visiting the 2nd-seeded Bullpups following its 32-13 victory at Buhler last Friday night in the opening round of the postseason.
Ark City last played McPherson in 2020, when the Bulldogs defeated the Bullpups 28-27 to punch a ticket to the state title game. Ark City was scheduled last season to play McPherson in the opening round of the playoffs, but the Bulldogs forfeited the postseason following the death of senior running back and linebacker Rhett Lathers, who was killed in a car accident the week leading up to playoffs.
Winfield (2-7) will play at Andover Central (6-3) tonight. Curt Caden will have the call on 95.9 Bob FM. Pregame with head coach Monty Lewis will begin at 6:40.
In the opening round of postseason play last Friday night, the 13th-seeded Vikings upset Wellington in overtime 31-28. The Crusaders went into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the west side of the bracket with a record of 5-3.
Winfield hasn’t faced Andover Central in 15 years. The Jaguars defeated the Vikings in the 2007 regular season 45-7 in Andover.
Southwestern College will be in action in Wichita Saturday afternoon.
The Moundbuilders, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA with a 7-1 record, will face Friends University (4-5) in Wichita. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. Curt Caden will have the call back on 95.9 Bob FM with pregame starting at 12:40.
