The Southwestern College men’s basketball defeated Tabor College 76-61 Saturday in Winfield and Ark City High School grad Cevin Clark ended the night with 33 points for the No. 21 Moundbuilders on Pink Night inside Stewart Field House.
Cooper Pierce, another ACHS alum, added seven points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.
SC led by just a single point with 13 minutes left in the game, but 28 of the game’s final 42 points were scored by Southwestern to ice it, according to the school’s recap.
“I am thankful for another great crowd at the fieldhouse,” SC head coach Matt O’Brien said. “I am so appreciative of all the support of the Winfield community.”
Clark has scored 29 or more points in each of the last three Moundbuilder contests and was the only Moundbuilder to reach double-digits in scoring on Saturday, but Andrew O’Brien reached the nine-point mark with a 4-of-11 (36.4%) display from the field and Trey White came off the bench to score eight points on 3-of-4 (75%) shooting and 2-of-2 from long range.
O’Brien passed out 10 assists in the matchup.
“Cevin was outstanding tonight in terms of scoring the ball,” O’Brien said “Cooper was very active on the boards. It is good to win after a long, tough couple of weeks of games.”
The Builders (18-5, 12-5 KCAC) next face York in Nebraska at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Play-by-play action with Curt Caden will be on the air via 95.9 Bob FM and via the live broadcast stream at cowleypost.com.
