Playing its final regular season home match, the sophomores of the No. 3-ranked Cowley College volleyball team were honored before Wednesday night’s match against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University JV. Once the match started, the sophomores led the way in the easy 25-6, 25-15, 25-9 victory.

Cowley (35-3), winners of six matches in a row, played all eight sophomores in the win.

The Lady Tigers led 15-3 in the opening set and never looked back in the 25-6 win. Leading just 14-12 in set two, Cowley would score 11 of the following 14 points to win 25-15. The Lady Tigers would then score five of the first six points of set three and cruised to the 25-9 victory.

“Our goal every game is to have at least three runs of three, and the other goal is to have seven times where they have only one serve,” Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. “When you put those two together, you get what you saw tonight,” Gream said.

Seldom used sophomore setter Tynisha Clitso earned the opportunity to start on sophomore night and recorded her first career double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs.

“Ty led the offense the entire night and showed things we have been working on,” Gream said.

All the sophomores were involved, as Laci Beougher led the team with 16 kills, while Marcella Erichsen added eight kills and 10 digs. Fellow sophomores Rachele Tessari (11 kills), Gyongyver Araczki (seven kills), Sydney Unruh (15 digs), Landy Cate (three aces), and Bethania Barreto (three kills) shined in the victory.

“Everybody contributed and did their part, which made it even more fun on this special night,” Gream said.

Cowley, guaranteed to finish second in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, will play its final conference game of the season when they play at Fort Scott (6-21) Friday at 6:30 p.m.

“We are still getting better and working on things,” Gream said. “We haven’t peaked yet and will keep improving each day.”
