After winning its first six games at home, the No. 4-ranked Cowley College men’s soccer team suffered its first home defeat in a 4-1 loss against 15th-ranked Coffeyville Community College Saturday in Ark City.
Cowley had its six-game winning streak end, as they are now 11-2 overall. Coffeyville improves its record to 10-4-1 on the season.
Coffeyville scored two minutes into Saturday’s game and again two minutes before halftime to lead 2-1. Cowley would get its first-half goal from Sora Funakushi off an assist by Caique Trivelato.
The score would remain 2-1 until midway through the second half when the Red Ravens got goals from Joao Gustavo and Calvin Scholten to pull away for the road win as things got chippy between the two teams down the stretch.
The Tigers will have some time off before hosting Garden City Saturday at 4 p.m. The Broncbusters are just 6-10 on the season.
The Cowley College women’s soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 loss Saturday at home against the Red Ravens. The Lady Tigers led 2-0 before Coffeyville rallied for the victory behind three goals from Alia Jaidi.
The loss was the second one-goal defeat in a row for the Lady Tiger soccer team, as they are now 7-6 on the season. Coffeyville improves its record to 11-4-1.
On Saturday, Cowley got first-half goals from Lucia Rivas and Berta Del Hoyo Borre to lead 2-0 with 13 minutes left before halftime. Unfortunately, the Red Ravens would score less than two minutes later to gain some momentum. Coffeyville would tie the game on Alia Jadi’s second goal two minutes before halftime.
The score would remain tied until late in the game when Jaidi scored her third goal with 6:35 remaining. Cowley would be unable to answer as they suffered its fourth one-goal defeat of the season.
Things will not get any easier for the Lady Tigers as they will travel to play at 15th-ranked Hutchinson Wednesday at 6 p.m.
