Jayhawk Conference men’s and women’s basketball teams won it all this season at the NJCAA Tournament.
Monday night the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team defeated defending national champion Northwest Florida State 88-80 in overtime in Casper, Wyoming for the Blue Dragons’ first women’s hoops national title in school history.
Hutch, 36-0 going into the championship game, trailed Northwest Florida State by six points with 2:32 left in regulation, but the Blue Dragons evened it up to force overtime where Hutch outscored the Raiders 19-11.
Saturday, inside Hutchinson Sports Arena, Barton County Community College won it’s first national title in program history.
The Cougars, ranked No. 1 in the country going into the tournament, bested Triton College 88-73.
Barton County’s finished the season 36-1. The Cougars lone loss? Cowley College, when the Tigers beat Barton 80-70 in Great Bend on Nov. 29.
The Tigers men’s team made it to the round of 16 in the NJCAA Tournament.
The men’s tournament also featured Hutchinson Community College to make it three Jayhawk Conference members in the 24-team field.
