The Arkansas City High School Symphonic Choir recently returned from an unforgettable spring break trip that combined music, culture, and powerful learning experiences across three cities.

The journey began in Memphis with a moving visit to the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. Students explored the site’s rich history before enjoying lunch at the iconic Central BBQ. From there, the group traveled to Nashville, where they took in scenic views from the pedestrian bridge, explored the vibrant Broadway Street and the Hard Rock Cafe, and visited the Country Music Hall of Fame.

A highlight of the trip was the choir’s performance at the Nashville Heritage Festival, hosted at Centennial High School. The ACHS Symphonic Choir earned a prestigious Gold rating for their performance. Additionally, ACHS senior Kayson Hamrick received the festival’s Ovation Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate passion, leadership, and service through music.

The Arkansas City High School Symphonic Choir, under the direction of Logan Caywood, performs at the Nashville Heritage Festival, hosted at Centennial High School in Nashville, TN. The group earned a prestigious Gold rating, and ACHS senior Kayson Hamrick received the festival’s Ovation Award for outstanding passion, leadership, and service through music.

“I feel honored and proud to be nominated by Mr. Caywood, and I am thankful for music giving me something to continue to do throughout high school and college” Hamrick said following the awards ceremony.

Students also enjoyed a fun night of live music and line dancing at Category 10 and attended a powerful concert by the Nashville Symphony.

“The festival was an incredible opportunity for our students to showcase their hard work and talent,” said ACHS Choir Director Logan Caywood. “Due to our high ratings in Nashville, we have been invited to attend festivals in New York and Dallas next year. Even if we’re not able to attend, it is still an honor to be invited.”

The trip concluded with a stop in St. Louis, where the group visited the Gateway Arch, Union Station, and the Cathedral Basilica. The choir had the special opportunity to sing inside the cathedral, reflecting on a week filled with music, learning, and lasting memories.

“This trip allowed our students to connect with history, experience professional performances, and grow as musicians and individuals,” Caywood added. “I am so proud of them – they represented us well both on and off the stage during the trip and have grown immensely in the two years I have known them.”

The ACHS Symphonic Choir’s spring break trip offered students a unique opportunity to grow as performers while exploring new cities and cultures. Their achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of the students, director, and those who helped make the experience possible.
